UK Indie publisher announces new releases in the run up to the 2010 convention season!

“Ian Sharman has created a refreshingly original take on the superhero team book in Alpha Gods.” – Edward Kaye, Hypergeek.

Orang Utan Comics is pleased to announce the latest release in superhero/sci-fi series Alpha Gods – Alpha Gods: Betrayal #2! The new issue is now available to order via IndyPlanet’s print on demand service (

http://www.indyplanet.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=3365) and as a digital download from DriveThru Comics (http://comics.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=78584). Comic book stores can also get in on the action by ordering Alpha Gods: Betrayal #2, and all of Orang Utan Comics other titles, from online distributor Comics Monkey (http://www.comicsmonkey.com/versionone/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=orang+utan+comics&osCsid=1hsegangkpb06fl812j2qek2o1).

“Alpha Gods continues to build a loyal fan following,” said Orang Utan Comics’ Managing Editor and Alpha Gods creator, Ian Sharman, “and we feel overwhelmed that our fans have rewarded us with a nomination for Best Comic Not Distributed By Diamond in the upcoming Comicpalooza Fandom Awards!” Indeed, Orang Utan Comics have also recently announced that they will be guesting at the Comicpalooza event in Houston, Texas (http://www.comicpalooza.com/index.html), on 26th-28th March. The last weekend in March promises to be a busy one for Orang Utan Comics as they will also be attending the Hi-Ex show in Inverness (http://www.hi-ex.co.uk/), so whether you’re in sunny Texas, or not-so-sunny Inverness, be sure to stop by and say “Hi.”

Orang Utan Comics are also pleased to announce that they’ve just gone to press on their first trade paperback collection, FTL: Year One. This will collect the first four issues of their hit anthology series, FTL, into a single volume. The trade will be available online through IndyPlanet, and retailers will be able to order through ComicsMonkey. Convention goers in the US will be able to pick up a copy at C2E2 (http://www.c2e2.com/) in April, while UK fans will get their first look at the Bristol International Comic and Small Press Expo (http://www.fantasyevents.org/bristolcomicexpo/) in May.

SHADES - THE END IS NIGH!
Broken Voice Comics is pleased to announce that the whole of Chapter 15 of the graphic novel “Shades” is now available to read online and the final chapter (Chapter 16) will begin at its website (www.brokenvoice.co.uk) on Monday, 15 February.
Written by David A J Berner and illustrated in full colour, “Shades” is an action adventure fantasy which tells the story of a small group of quasi-historical British heroes, struggling to find a sense of purpose in the modern world. The action takes place both in the physical and the spirit worlds as the characters’ story takes in five thousand years of British history.
“It’s been six years since I wrote the first draft of the script for “Shades” Berner told us. “And so, to see the final pieces of the artwork finally coming together creates a tremendous sense of achievement!”

“We’ve reached the climax of the story now and, as you’d expect from an action adventure tale, these final two chapters are inevitably packed with the most ambitious action sequences in the book!”

Pencilled and inked by E.C. Nickel and coloured by Muamal Khairi, those action scenes see WW2 pilot Doug Chamberlain fighting to save a nuclear power station, while the demon hunter Arturos has joined forces with the warrior queen Boudicca to battle the demonic entity Thrawn.
Stan is the book’s “everyman” and, while the story’s more colourful characters are engaging each other in mortal combat, the story never loses sight of Stan’s very human problems.  “In these final two chapters Stan realises he has to take drastic action if he is ever to mend his strained relationship with his daughter Jill,” says Berner. “He decides he can no longer keep his friends’ secrets and he resolves to tell her everything. Needless to say, things don’t go as planned!”
But “Shades” has always been about more than fisticuffs and pyrotechnics. The final showdown is as much a struggle for the soul of the nation as it is about good guys pummelling bad guys. And then, of course … there’s Stanley Miller!

So, with the final chapter about to be launched online, what’s next for “Shades”? “We’re currently putting the finishing touches to the artwork for the epilogue,” Berner told us. “After that we’ll be looking to put together a print edition. Given the very British nature of the story, I’d ideally like to find a UK publisher for it, but that remains to be seen. The final page is scheduled to appear online in July and, at that point, the first thing we’ll be doing is breaking out the champagne!”
